SALT LAKE CITY — A semi-truck and trailer hauling mail crashed Thursday morning and high-centered itself on a freeway ramp in Davis County, closing it to traffic for hours. It happened around 6:30 am as the semitrailer was exiting southbound I-15 and turning west onto I-215 in North Salt Lake.

“The semi lost control in the curve,” said UHP spokesperson Cameron Roden. “The truck went off to the right and hit the crash cushion [the metal rails just before the cement barrier] and the trailer slid along the barrier.” The semi driver was not injured.

Looks like a semi has gone over the barrier on the ramp from SB I-15 to WB I-215 in North Salt Lake. Not sure how much longer that ramp will remain open. pic.twitter.com/OMvvcV5FZX

When the semitrailer came to rest, its back end was hanging suspended over the right travel lane on the freeway ramp. Roden said that required UDOT crews and highway patrol troopers to close the ramp to give them room to operate and pull the truck and trailer up from the embankment.

Roden did not say if the weather was a factor in the crash, but the roads in that area were wet at the time it occurred.

The ramp reopened at 10 am after being closed for three hours.
